Validity of the Over the Top Golf Swing

There are many different aspects and components that comprise an effective golf game, but if the epicenter of the game were reduced to one singular factor it would be the golf swing. After all, if no one swung the club and hit the ball, golf wouldn’t be all that interesting of a game! Now, there are a number of different golf swings all of which are designed to accomplish different purposes. Different golfers prefer different swing techniques in order to fit within the framework of the particular game they play. One such golf swing that certain players seem to put a great deal of faith into is the over the top golf swing. For some, this is not a good idea as an over the top golf swing can have a hugely negative impact on the ability to play the game. In other words, they feel an over the top golf swing is a bad technique.

Basically, an over the top golf swing is a swing the forms a circle where the path of the swing goes up and over the head of the golfer during the follow through. Some feel that utilizing an over the top golf swing leads to a heightened power of the impact point on the golf ball while others feel that such a golf swing yields a significant lack of direction behind the ball. So which one is correct?

It is difficult to decide which point of view is accurate when trying to decipher the opinions based on simply pontificating upon the opinions. In other words, in order to decide whether or not this golf swing technique is a valid one or not, the golfer has to head out on the green and give it a try. If the results work well in practice, they should translate well into a real game. If not, it would be wise to drop the technique from one’s arsenal.
